Sitting . . .

Last evening, I was sitting on my bench along the Columbia just thinking and pondering the pathways of my mind, in other words, chilling. I didn’t even notice when someone sat down on the other end of the bench. Dressed in a dark colored hoodie, their face shrouded by the hood, I should have known better.

Yep, it was her, the elusive woman who usually appears when the seasons begin to change or during a short break in an extended period of extreme weather. Without expressing any emotion, I said, “Back again, eh?”

Staring out over the water she replied, “Yep.”

“I suppose you are going to say something about the weather, but the season has already changed.”

She smiled. “Yes, but I had hoped you would be sending me a little sunshine.”

I chuckled and remarked that I have been asked that a lot lately and maybe I should be a little less noticeable and wear a hoodie myself. I borrowed some words from the musical Annie and said, “The sun will come out tomorrow, and so you got to hang on until tomorrow, come what may; tomorrow, tomorrow! You’re always a day a way!”

She stood up, turned a bit, smiled and walked away. ~Patrick Timm
